Aymarus Rivallius

c. 1490–1557

Alternative Names

Aymarus Rivallius Allobrigis; Aymar de Rivail; Aymar du Rivail

Biography/Description

CERL Thesaurus, s.n. DuRivail, Aymar, c. 1490 – c. 1560. Another entry in the Thesaurus gives what seem to be more accurate dates, c. 1490–1557. ‘Allobrigis’ in A.’s Latin name is derived from ‘Allobriges’, the name of an ancient Gaulish tribe, which serves to identify A. to the Dauphiné, east of Lyon. For A., who was as much an historian as he was a lawyer, see the brief account in French Wikipedia, which gives his dates as 1491–1558.
