A commentary on pars prima and secunda of Gratian’s Decretum; composed in the archdiocese of Cologne in 1169. The anonymous author belonged to the French school and introduced a methodological novelty in that he included a paraphrase of all the canons in Gratian that he discussed. In addition, although he followed the argument as given in the Decretum, he rearranged it in an order of his own. While some have argued that Geoffrey of Cologne was the author, Landau has recently argued strongly for Bertramnus Mettensis (Bertram of Metz), a person proposed in some of the older scholarship as well. |
