The Ames Foundation is collaborating with the Southampton Record Society to produce a edition of the surviving records of the Common and Piepowder courts of Southampton from the mid-fifteenth century. A paper edition of these records in translation is scheduled to appear in 2011 as volume 43 of the Southampton Records Series. An online edition will follow on this site. In the meantime, with the kind permission of the mayor and council of Southampton and of the city archivist, we are able to present here images of almost all the documents that will appear in the edition. The numbers on the images correspond roughly to that of the foliation of the documents except that most of the documents in register format were photographed in two-page format, the verso of one folio and the recto of the next.
