List of Images of Pages of Printed Cases and Other Documents
in Beinecke Library of Yale University

The Beinecke Library at Yale University holds copies of a number of printed cases; those in King v Lewis contain manuscript notes not found elsewhere, and that in Lee v Hunter seems to be unique. The library’s friendly co-operation in making images of these cases and licensing us to publish them is gratefully acknowledged. They have asked us to provide links to the same images on their page delivery service (which is more sophisticated than ours), and we are happy to do so below.

Clicking on any of the links marked ‘View on Ames’ will bring you to an image of the page listed embedded in an HTML frame. The links marked ‘View at Beinecke’ bring you directly to Beinecke’s page delivery service. You may download a single copy of the image for private study, scholarly, or educational purposes only. You can navigate between the pages either by using the arrows at the top and bottom of the image frame or by returning to this page, which will remain in a tab or separate window. The images are large, so that the small print can be read. For detail and downloading you can get an even larger image to open in your browser by clicking on the link in the upper-right hand corner. Sometimes Firefox will refuse to load these larger images, though it can be persuaded to change its mind. We have had better luck with Internet Explorer.

Report No. 13_1753_02

King v Lewis

Virginia

Appellant’s case

Case of the appellant (King in King v Lewis)

Counsel

[Signed] Wm. Murray; Ste. Comyn

Note

Although the case mentions only Lewis and Burwell in the heading, Braxton is mentioned in the body of the case. There is, however, no reference to Braxton’s cross-appeal.

Library

Yale University. Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library: ZZ40 25 (Includes manuscript notes, notably on the dorse, where there is an index referring to events in the 1730s and 1740s. The references correspond, for the most part, to events mentioned in the brief, but the page numbers suggest that they refer to a much fuller record of the case.)

Respondent’s case

Case of the respondent (Braxton in King v Braxton)

Counsel

[Signed] A. Hume-Campbell; Al. Forrester

Note

The heading of the case lists the names of Braxton, Burwell, and Lewis, suggesting that this covers all three cases.
