Biography/Description

F. was one of the archdeacons of Utrecht and wrote extensively on legal matters, particularly on the feudal law. In 1559 he was made the first archbishop of Utrecht and attempted to lead the Counter-Reformation there. The effort was not successful, and there was not another Catholic bishop of Utrecht until the 19th century. More recent biographies with somewhat contrasting views can be found in English and Dutch Wikipedia.
