Biography/Description

A Franciscan and author of a penitential Summa which he completed before 1274. The work borrowed much from the Summa of Raymundus de Pennaforte and the writings of Henricus de Segusia (Hostiensis), but introduced a new method in presenting the material. Instead of the logical order that had been adopted by the older writers, Monaldus resorted to an alphabetical arrangement. In this, he was to be followed by most of the later penitential authors.
